03/28/15 (Spring Training)3/30/2015 Following portraits on Saturday, the GBC headed out for one last exhibition game (this time consisting of the regular 5 innings) before Opening Night.
Things started with a bang when Brendan Henson launched a solo shot to right field for the first home run of spring training, giving the AL a 1-0 lead. It didn't last long though, as the NL rallied 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st, mostly due to fielding errors. Over the next few innings, the AL scored 4 runs, and took a 5-4 lead heading into the bottom of the third, when Corey Knisley surrendered the mound to Jeremy Freese. The first batter he faced, Tyler McCann, hit a home run to right center, very reminiscent of Henson's shot in the first. Now tied, Freese was able to buckle down and strike out John Wagner. The third batter of the inning, Kyle Knisley, then punished Freese again, with a solo home run to left, giving the NL a 6-5 lead. Jeremy finished the inning without allowing any more runs, but McCann was able to get out if an eventual bases loaded jam with the lead in tact. The game ended with a 6-5 NL victory, leaving them undefeated in all 3 pre-season games. Opening Night is still scheduled for Thursday, April 2nd at Jefferson Barracks, field conditions pending.
