Blue: Bequette, Kollar, Baker, Henson Red*: McCann, Corley, C. Knisley, K. Knisley Sundays mud-fest was played at Arnold Park, with rain falling heavily during most of the game. The first few innings were played well, with Kollar and C. Knisley on the mound for their respective teams. The Red Team was able to put up 3 runs in the bottom of the first, largely due to walks, but also with a few hard base hits. As the game dragged on and the rain continued to fall, the pitching got uglier and uglier, but no more runs scored. McCann and Baker both closed for their teams, with a 3-0 final, giving Kyle Knisley his first win on the 2015 season, and Paul Kollar his first loss. The game followed with some fun in the mud, as seen below. Home Runs: 0 Blue*: Kollar, Henson, Baker, C. Knisley
Red: Bequette, Voelker, K. Knisley Due to time constraints, Friday consisted of yet another 3-inning game. Captains were the two remaining undefeated league leaders Lucas Voelker and Paul Kollar, each sending a Knisley out to the mound. The game was a pitching dual, neither side allowing a run until the top of the third, when after a delay, Kyle Knisley walked the first two batters, then allowed two consecutive hits which scored the go-ahead run. He walked in two more runs after a controversial call, before finally getting out of the inning after allowing 3 runs. Corey Knisley kicked things into overdrive and closed things out with a 3-up-3-down bottom of the inning. Home Runs: 0 Blue: Wynn, Wheeling, C. Knisley, K. Knisley, Earls
Red*: Bequette, Voelker, Kollar, Corley, McCann In today's short 3-inning game, Corey Knisley led the blue team from the mound, while Paul Kollar and his red team played behind starting pitcher Tyler McCann. The Blue Team took a one run lead in the first and added to it in the second, with a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the third. The Red Team rallied in the third, and scored a winning run via walk. NL: Wynn, McCann, Baker, K. Knisley, Henson, Wagner, Wheeling, Bequette The 2015 opener was a split AL/NL game at Bohrer Park. The game started with a bang when Paul Kollar hit a solo home run in the very first at bat of the season, which set the tone for the entire game. The AL scored 4 runs on 3 home runs, behind Corey Knisley, who pitched a complete game, 1-hit shutout. Final: 4-0 AL HRs: Kollar, J. Knisley, Hubbard Following portraits on Saturday, the GBC headed out for one last exhibition game (this time consisting of the regular 5 innings) before Opening Night.
Things started with a bang when Brendan Henson launched a solo shot to right field for the first home run of spring training, giving the AL a 1-0 lead. It didn't last long though, as the NL rallied 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st, mostly due to fielding errors. Over the next few innings, the AL scored 4 runs, and took a 5-4 lead heading into the bottom of the third, when Corey Knisley surrendered the mound to Jeremy Freese. The first batter he faced, Tyler McCann, hit a home run to right center, very reminiscent of Henson's shot in the first. Now tied, Freese was able to buckle down and strike out John Wagner. The third batter of the inning, Kyle Knisley, then punished Freese again, with a solo home run to left, giving the NL a 6-5 lead. Jeremy finished the inning without allowing any more runs, but McCann was able to get out if an eventual bases loaded jam with the lead in tact. The game ended with a 6-5 NL victory, leaving them undefeated in all 3 pre-season games. Opening Night is still scheduled for Thursday, April 2nd at Jefferson Barracks, field conditions pending. The Gateway Baseball Club took to the turf at Windsor High School again today for individualized practice, and another AL/NL scrimmage, with even more new faces.
The NL took home the win again today, but in much less dramatic fashion than last week: a 1-0 victory, with the only run coming via walk in the first inning. Kyle Knisley pitched the complete game shutout, with hits by Kyle and Corey Knisley, David Lankford, Tyler McCann, and Chris Bequette, and a handful of walks drawn by others. The Club will have portraits and pitching work next weekend, as Opening Night draws even closer... After a series of drills and warm ups, the Gateway players decided to jump straight into things with a 3-inning scrimmage, which ended up being called after two because of time restraints. 2014 GBC Champion Corey Knisley led the AL as the home team, while Kyle Knisley led the NL, with newcomers like Tyler McCan and Chris Bequette.
Things started right for Corey, getting the first two batters to face him. From there, the NL rallied 8, with flashes of power throughout the lineup. Tyler McCann took the mound in the bottom of the first, holding Corey and the AL scoreless through the first. The NL failed to score again, and the AL managed to get 4 back in the bottom of the second, but the game was called after two innings, with a final score of 8-4, National League. 0 Home Runs |
